New stuff!

I was writing my outline for the paper, and I was looking back at a page I got an article from her from, and I was looking through the comments on the article and people are VICIOUS. They were absolutely tearing her to shreds.

Check it out.

I know, it's been forever...

This week sucked without Walsh, just to start. =(

Here's a picture of Christina Ricci looking kind of like Elizabeth Wurtzel, at the premiere of Prozac Nation. She played her in the movie version of the book.
... I haven't watched the movie yet, I haven't had time.
Cool, be back before the end of the week.
Peace.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

I know I was supposed to update a couple of days ago, I apologize.

This week seems incredibly daunting, so I'm a little nervous. Anyone else?

In my recent reading, Ms. Wurtzel's been keeping me involved in her sexual affair with her friend's brother, five years older than her. (I know, that doesn't seem like a big age difference, but when she's 12 and he's 17? It's kind of a thing.) She's also had a boyfriend (this is later) and she experienced her first broken heart. Her father also disappears. He became insignificant to her life, which, I suppose, is a good thing.
I'm putting Prozac Nation with Christina Ricci on my Netflix list as soon as I'm done here, by the way.
Happy blogging.

Updates & Answered Questions.

Books written by Wurtzel (for Christine. =)),

Prozac Nation: Young and Depressed in America: A Memoir
Bitch: In Praise of Difficult Women
The Secret Life: Common Sense Advice for Uncommon Women
More, Now, Again: A Memoir of Addiction

She's also a journalist and has had articles in The Harvard Crimson and the Dallas Morning News, as well as The New Yorker.

So I'm about (only) 50 pages into Prozac and it's quite interesting so far. Elizabeth uses very effective rhetorical strategy and modes in her memoir. I've got 2 of my annotated bibliographies and I am not yet completely stressed out...I've developed this new thing called no procrastination? Hopefully it lasts longer than I expect.

and I leave you with a quote:
"That term is loaded with irony to me now because I know how false that appearance of promise is." --Wurtzel, on the term "Full of promise"

Memorable Quotes!

Two quotes from what I have read so far of Prozac Nation
(there will be a ton of these, I loooooove quotations)

"Everything's plastic. We're all gonna die."

"I start to think there really is no cure for depression, that happiness is an ongoing battle, and I wonder if it isn't one I'll have to fight for as long as I live. I wonder if it's worth it."

Well, here's number one.

So, this is a blog...

I chose Ms. Wurtzel because I have always loved memoir. I feel it is better than fiction, solely because it actually happened. Her first memoir, about her struggling with depression at a very young age, is Prozac Nation. I have heard amazing things about this book so I decided to attempt to enjoy this project by reading an interesting memoir. A feat that I'm willing to tackle, but probably will not succeed. I'm looking forward to diving into this book, if not anything else.
